City Opens New Cycle Track for Downtown Huntsville

Mayor Tommy Battle held a ribbon cutting Dec. 14 to open the City’s first cycle track, a dedicated bicycle lane on Spragins Street, marked by curbs and wide green stripes. The cycle track is a pilot project that emanated from public requests through The BIG Picture master planning process for better and safer cycling routes. The Task Force utilizes data provided by the State that determines traffic accident hotspots across the city. Volleyball courts The City Council approved a contract with Chorba Construction to begin work on a new sand volleyball complex at John Hunt Park. The facility will include 12 courts, easing the load at the existing six courts at Brahan Spring Park, and a building that will include concessions, changing facilities and restrooms.
