Council certifies municipal election results – declares District 5 runoff election on Oct. 6

Retired HPD Officer Chet Berry will be a part of our part-time officer program and three other officers are now part of our Lateral Entry Program. Huntsville Police is having a retirement ceremony for Captain Malone at the Public Safety Academy at 1pm today in the Auditorium. The Public Safety Academy is off Winchester Rd. If you’re going westbound from Memorial Parkway look for the detour signs just east of Cecil Fain Drive. The auditorium is located on the second floor of the Public Safety Academy and is accessible from the main lobby entrance.

The Huntsville City Council passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Tommy Battle, the City Attorney and Clerk-Treasurer to take whatever legal actions are needed in the Remington Arms bankruptcy case. The City of Huntsville entered into a development agreement with Remington Arms in 2014 which contained a package of local incentives. Huntsville Police received a call about a shooting victim on August 24th at approximately 5:30pm on the 2000 Block of Griffith Dr. near Atkins Dr. When Officers arrived they found 23 yr old Brandon Moore suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced deceased. If anyone has information regarding the death of Moore please call Huntsville Police at 256-213-4532.

The Madison County Board of Registrars will begin validating provisional ballots from the August 25 Municipal Election and the outcome will determine the need for a runoff in the District 5 City Council race.
