Support for Columbia High soccer teams

Council President John Meredith recently presented a check for $5,000 to Coach Alemseged Starling for the Columbia High School varsity and junior varsity boys soccer teams to support their efforts and help offset expenses. The allocation came from the District 5 Council Improvement Fund.

The President’s Forum in March highlighted City services designed to keep Huntsville clean and efficient while disposing of waste safely and efficiently. Council President Meredith’s guests were Doc Holladay, executive director of the Solid Waste Disposal Authority, Public Works Director Chris McNeese and Sanitation Manager Keith Robertson. The topics discussed were garbage collection, recycling services and roads.

The City of Huntsville entered into an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., to study six signalized intersections on Capshaw Road. The study will include six intersections to optimize signal timing and provide layouts of possible intersection improvements to maximize the capacity through each intersection. The 48-page booklet provides a trove of information about D5 and helps residents stay in the know about development happening in their community.

The City’s annual Development Review revealed that housing inventory continues to grow in D5. In 2024, 2,957 housing units were issued certificates of occupancy (COs) in D5. The boost primarily came in multi-family developments. Altogether, the City set a record with more than 6,000 units receiving COs in 2024. Home sales were up 1.5% in 2024 in D5 with single-family homes selling for an average price of $397,713.
