Huntsville streetscape project to add more on-street parking near new federal courthouse

The City is moving ahead with plans for improvements on Lowe Avenue that include street parking to accommodate the under-construction federal courthouse. The streetscape project spans Lowe Avenue between Lowery Boulevard and Madison Street. Council Member Meredith presented the $12,000 allocation from the District 5 Council Improvement Fund to the Historic Huntsville Foundation for the Lydia Drive National Register Historic District nomination. City Council approved the donation in January and Meredith presented the ceremonial check to HHF Executive Director Donna Castellano and her team. On May 7, Council Member Meredith met with constituents at Williams Middle School at his monthly town hall meeting. Discussion focused on issues that have emerged due to the booming growth in District 5 such as infrastructure, roads and traffic. The growth has also led Huntsville City Schools to include in its capital plan a new school in Limestone County for grades P-8 that will serve students in west Huntsville.
