Donation to Huntsville Historic Foundation

Council Member Meredith presented the $12,000 allocation from the District 5 Council Improvement Fund to the Historic Huntsville Foundation for the Lydia Drive National Register Historic District nomination
City Council approved the donation in January and Meredith presented the ceremonial check to HHF Executive Director Donna Castellano and her team. HHF nominated Lydia Drive to the National Register of Historic Places due to its connection to Huntsville’s Civil Rights Movement.
The designation would recognize Lydia Drive, a road through a 20-acre development within the Brandontown community, as the enclave of Black empowerment where most of the planning for Huntsville’s 1960s Civil Rights Movement took place.
