City of Huntsville announces Good Friday closures

The City of Huntsville’s municipal offices and Municipal Court will close Friday, April 7, in observance of Good Friday. City offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, April 10. Because garbage collection occurs Monday-Thursday, there will be no change to service. Huntsville Transit will operate a normal schedule for both Orbit fixed-route buses and Access paratransit services. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) responded to a shooting call at 4:45 p.m. in the 4600 block of Governors House Drive. When officers arrived, a female shooting victim was located. Two responding HPD Officers were shot by an offender at the scene. The Officers were transported to Huntsville Hospital with life-threatening-injuries. The City of Huntsville underscored its commitment to pedestrian safety by committing to install about 3 miles of new sidewalks at various locations. Funding to begin Phase 2 of Huntsville’s residential street repaving plan for this fiscal year has been approved by City Council. Wiregrass Construction Company won the $5.1 million contract to improve 51 neighborhood streets within the next 10 months. Mayor Tommy Battle’s 2022-2023 budget includes about $19.5 million for street improvements – the most money ever allocated for residential resurfacing.
