September 29, 2017FY 2018 Budget The Huntsville City Council approved municipal budgets for the 2018 fiscal year at their regularly scheduled meeting Thursday night. Council voted 5-0 to adopt a $400.6 million budget, which includes $197.6 million in general fund operations and $157.6 million in capital projects. The general fund, or operating budget, represents a modest $600,000 increase over 2017 and provides level funding for most municipal departments and outside agencies. September 26, 2017The City of Huntsville is working on plans for a new urban trail (greenway) in the downtown area and is looking for public input. The Pedestrian Access and Redevelopment Corridor (PARC) will be a 1.5-mile pedestrian/bike trail, adjacent to the Pinhook Creek and Spring Branch, from north of Holmes Avenue to south of Memorial Parkway. July 14, 2017Economic Development Council voted 5-0 to approve an increase in the lodging tax to support a new $42 million renovation and expansion of the Von Braun Center. The amendment to the ordinance would increase the lodging tax by 2% and add a $1 charge per room per night to visitors staying in Huntsville hotels.
