Applications open for Civic Engagement Academy’s spring 2025 session

Citizens interested in learning about city government and making a difference in the Huntsville community are invited to apply for the Civic Engagement Academy’s (CEA) spring 2025 session.
This free, eight-week program is designed to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to become more involved in their community. Through a combination of classroom instruction and interactive activities, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of civic engagement.

The spring session will begin on March 18 with an orientation, followed by weekly classes every Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Topics covered throughout the program include:
- March 18:Orientation/How Our City Operates
- March 25:Our City Growing
- April 1:Our City Safe, Secure & Responding
- April 8:Our City at Work at City Hall
- April 15:Our City Maintaining
- April 22:Our City Engaging
- April 29:Our Community Resources
- May 6:Graduation
To apply, individuals must be at least 19 years old and reside, own a business or be a student in Huntsville or the surrounding area. Local influencers — whether emerging or established — who are eager to enhance community involvement are also encouraged to apply.
To successfully graduate from the program, participants are expected to attend at least seven of the eight classes. The curriculum is designed to equip individuals with practical knowledge about local government functions, public safety, economic development and community engagement, empowering them to make a meaningful impact in their neighborhoods.
