Need a warm place to stay in Huntsville? Here’s where you can go

With temperatures expected to drop significantly this week, the City is working with several nonprofit community partners to open three warming centers in Huntsville. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has charged a 17-year-old juvenile with Capital Murder and first-degree Assault and 19-year-old Darion Nelson with Felony Murder following a shooting incident on Thursday, Jan. 13. Officers responded to the 2400 block of Tuxedo Drive shortly before 11 p.m. and found 31-year-old Michael Sykes with life-threatening injuries. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has requested the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) lead a death investigation related to an incident on Lawsons Ridge Drive that occurred Friday, Jan. 7. SBI has charged HPD Officer David McCoy, who was off duty at the time of the incident, with capital murder. McCoy has been placed on administrative leave by HPD.
