City plans to replace the aging municipal building on Fountain Circle are moving forward with a projected construction timeline for late 2020.

Mayor Tommy Battle and his administration have been working on plans for a new municipal complex for many years. The need has been long-recognized by Council and a new complex was approved by Council in the Capital Budget.

Determining the location for City Hall was a key part of The BIG Picture downtown master plan. After much input and analysis, the City focused on the site of the aging municipal garage at the corner of Madison Street and Fountain Circle, across the street from the present City Hall. Planners say the highest and best use of the current site of City Hall would be for private development.

Since 2017, the City has been working with Goodwyn Mills Cawood architects to analyze space requirements for each department.

General Services Director Ricky Wilkinson provided the City with a presentation on the progress of the new City Hall development.
