Toyota and Mazda Select Huntsville for $1.6 Billion Auto Plant
Published on January 10, 2018
Intense speculation over a major industrial project for Huntsville’s TVA-certified megasite ended today when Toyota and Mazda executives announced they will jointly build their new $1.6 billion assembly plant in the Rocket City.
“This is one of the most sought-after economic development projects in the nation, and likely the biggest of the decade,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “It’s a $1.6 billion investment, 4,000 new jobs, $200 million in annual payroll. This is a transformative project for Huntsville and Alabama.”
“Beyond the job creation, this partnership between two of the most innovative automakers creates an opportunity to challenge the world’s best and brightest to come up with new technologies that we are only beginning to understand. I’m proud to say that Huntsville will be playing a role in the evolution of this industry, and I’m even prouder to say we are doing so with two forward-looking, innovative companies: Toyota and Mazda. We truly are embarking on a New World.”
