The use of “Movie Money” has become a popular way for criminals to target unsuspecting victims and the Huntsville Police Departments Cyber/ Financial Crimes Unit would like to share some photos of the most recognizable of this “Movie Money” in an effort to help you from becoming a victim. This “movie Money” appears to be authentic and includes different denominations, but can be easily identified by carefully reading what’s written on the bill.  The bills read “for motion picture use only” or have red and white Oriental Style writing on them; the warnings are hidden in plain sight. 

These bills are often used by criminals making purchases from individuals selling items on Social Media sites and Craigslist. A popular method is for the criminal to make the purchase in low light conditions, such as early evening hours, thereby making it more difficult for you to see what the bill actually looks like. When dealing with cash please take an extra moment to look at the money your receiving. Make sure the bills don’t say For Motion Picture Use Only, have Oriental style writing on it, or that all the serial numbers are the same.
