Public Works Crews Sweeping City to Clean-up Storm Debris

Sanitation crews will continue to work overtime through the weekend to pick-up the high volume of yard debris left over from severe storms that swept through the area the weekend of May 20 th .

Regular garbage collection routes are primarily on schedule, but large debris pick-up may take several more weeks.

“This was a tough storm on our community and it did a lot of damage,” said Chris McNeese, Director of Public Works. “We’re focusing on the neighborhoods and areas hit the hardest, and putting extra resources there to get the worst debris out of the way. It may take us several more weeks to get everything collected and we appreciate the community’s patience.”

McNeese says Public Works and Sanitation will continue to work diligently until all of the tree limbs and debris are collected.

Residents should leave their yard waste curbside, per city policies and instructions found in Curbside Collection and in the  City code (Ordinances Section 22 – 79 Bulky Waste, White Goods and Loose Yard Material and Section 22 – 80 Services Not Provided by City).

As a public service in the aftermath of a storm event, Public Works will waive the regular 10 cubic yard restriction during this cleanup period. Homeowners are still required to have the debris cut into lengths no larger than five feet.

If the homeowner has engaged the services of a contractor, the contractor shall be responsible for the  complete  removal of the debris material generated by the storm event.
