Party on the Green: Celebrating food, fun and good health

Published on September 26, 2022

Take a break from the weekday routine and join Party on the Green. This will be the ultimate Thursday evening out, featuring a diverse mix of food, fun and fitness.

The no-cost, family-friendly event, hosted by Healthy Huntsville and sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, will take place Thursday, Sept. 29, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at S.R. Butler Green Park, Campus No. 805, 2620 Clinton Ave. W., Huntsville.

DJ Lashay B will keep the party moving and the crowd on their feet with a mix of current and classic dance hits. Baila Huntsville will lead salsa line dancing and there will be soul line dancing with H-Town. There will also be family and group dance sessions.

In addition, guests can enjoy a wiffle ball home run derby, scavenger hunts for adults and children, lawn games, prizes and more. The party and activities are all free. However, with so many delicious dining options, you’ll probably want to have dinner while you’re there.

Those in attendance are invited to check out the food trucks, including Fast Frankie’s Wicked Eats, JJ’s Treats and Vujee Vegan. For those who would like to grab a bite from one of the Campus No. 805 establishments, quick mobile ordering will be available from Ale’s Kitchen, Earth and Stone Wood Fired Pizza, Hops N Guac and Rock N Roll Sushi.

“Dancing, fun games and activities, good food and spending time with others provide incredible benefits for the body, mind and soul,” said Healthy Huntsville Coordinator Kevin Ready. “That’s what Party on the Green is all about!”

Sophie Martin, Director of Corporate Communications and Community Relations for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, said they consistently look for initiatives that support the health and wellness of Alabamians.

“We are proud to partner with the City of Huntsville for Party on the Green, an event that encourages healthy habits in a fun and family-friendly environment,” she said.

Led by Mayor Tommy Battle and the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, Healthy Huntsville encourages citizens to embrace healthy lifestyles. Signature events include the Mayor’s Bike Ride, held each May, to encourage cycling and promote Bike Safety Month; Fitness in the Park, where citizens can try a different, no-cost fitness class at Big Spring Park each Saturday in May and June; and the six-week “Maintain, Don’t Gain” program over the holidays.

Other events are also held throughout the year. To stay up to date, follow the Healthy Huntsville Facebook page.
