New sidewalks get funding boost in City’s 2025 budget

Published on September 30, 2024

The City’s budget for the 2025 fiscal year bolsters funding for more sidewalk construction, a response to a popular neighborhood enhancement residents frequently request.

Plans call for 15 projects totaling 3.2 miles of new sidewalk throughout the City. The budget increases funding by 12.5% for sidewalk construction.

“Providing more money for sidewalk construction is something we’re excited to include in this budget,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “Sidewalks bond our neighborhoods and communities, and to build 15 new sidewalks further promotes Huntsville as a desirable place to live and raise a family.”

City staff are still in the process of finalizing the list of sidewalks to be included with this year’s budget. Evaluations for each consists of reviewing existing site conditions, utility conflicts, right-of-way constraints and cost estimates. The list of sidewalks is expected to be completed later this year.
