The list of non-residential projects permitted last month included more office space at Redstone Gateway and a new parking garage downtown. The number of residential units permitted doubled from last May’s total.
Residential Permits (new construction) in Huntsville city limits:
In May, 367 housing units were permitted, 109 single- and 258 multi-family. The top tract for building permits last month was 110.24 (NW Madison) where 258 units were permitted, all multi-family. This is a 153% increase over May 2019, when 145 housing units (130 single- and 15 multi-family) were permitted.
Residential Certificates of Occupancy (new construction) in Huntsville city limits:
134 housing units were granted certificates of occupancy (CO’s), 104 single- and 30 multi-family. The top tract for CO’s in the month of May was 106.27 (Providence) where 35 housing units were added, 5 single- and 30 multi-family. This is a 38.8% decrease from May 2019, when 219 housing units (96 single- and 123 multi-family) were granted CO’s.
