Huntsville Transit route changes provide safer, more reliable customer experience

Recent changes to two Huntsville Transit routes serving downtown and University Drive should provide a safer, more reliable customer experience.

Following a public input meeting last month, Transit revised Orbit routes 1 and 4. Quisha Bryant, Director of the City’s Department of Parking and Public Transit, said riders can expect subtle changes to other routes over the next several months.

“We thank all those who provided feedback at our last public input session, and we look forward to hearing from riders as we work to improve other routes,” she said.

Changes are as follows:

Bus stops on the downtown square were eliminated. Patrons can now access shuttles from Clinton Avenue and Spragins Street as buses will stop in both directions.

The outbound downtown route segment that runs west along Randolph Avenue was replaced with the same segment traveling west along Clinton Avenue. The inbound downtown segment that runs east along Eustis Avenue from Madison to Lincoln streets was rerouted to continue north on Clinton Avenue, making the left northbound turn onto Lincoln Street.

The Route 4 segment running north and south to Bridge Street Town Centre was eliminated, but access is provided on Route 3 from the downtown transfer station.

A new outbound service was added on Route 4, west on Rime Village Drive Northwest, north on Mainline Way Northwest, right on Moore Farm Lane Northwest, left to northbound Enterprise Way and onto eastbound University Drive.

A new transit bus stop was added on Wayne Circle Northwest to serve passengers to and from the Walmart Supercenter, eliminating the portion of the route through the parking lot to the front door of the store.
