HPD Employee Harry Dobbins Retirement

The Huntsville Police Department would like to invite media to our retirement celebration for Harry Dobbins today at 11am at the Jaycees Building on Airport Rd. If you are not familiar with Mr. Dobbins here is a brief summary of his career:
Harry Dobbin’s career started in 1972. He was a volunteer Police Officer for the City of Huntsville and was never paid during this time. While volunteering for HPD, he simultaneously worked for the Oakwood University Police as well. After approximately 20 years of volunteering as a certified police officer with the Huntsville Police Department, he was officially hired in September 1992 as a full time paid police officer. He was assigned to 3 rd shift uniform patrol until September 1995. From 1995 until 2001 he served on our Traffic Task Force, of which included time as a motorcycle officer. He further served in Fleet Services from 1992 to 2001 where he was instrumental in various procedures and processes that are still used today.
In 2001 he was recognized by the Mayor and City Council as a Community Hero for his outstanding service to the City. In 2004 he was medically retired as a police officer and continued as a civilian working in Fleet Services.
In March 2009 he received the Administrative Services Bureau Employee of the Year Award. In October 2009 he was selected as one of only 10 “Shining Starts” of Huntsville By the Mayor. His interview highlights were used in the Mayor’s State of the City Address. He has received several Meritorious Service Awards and numerous letters of appreciations throughout his career.
