How to safely recycle hazardous items found in your home

Green Team has put together an outline to make it easier to take that extra effort to properly dispose of items dangerous to the environment.

  • Batteries:Certain chemicals can be harmful to the environment, but batteries can be safely dropped off at the City of Huntsville’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 1055 A Cleaner Way. Check the list
  • Plastic Bags:Though they are made from plastic, the bags commonly used at stores cannot be included with approved plastics in your home recycling bin. However, they can still be recycled at designated drop-off locations at many local grocery stores. They can also be reused at home or you could even reuse them at the store.
  • Paint:Think about giving away leftover paint rather than discarding it. Local neighborhood groups or organizations might benefit from donations. If you need to dispose of paint, the Household Hazardous Waste Facility can handle that task for you.
  • License plates:What do you do when you get a new car tag? Old license plates can be left at the collection bin at the Madison County license office or drop them off at the Green Team office at 3242 Leeman Ferry Road SW.

Green Team appreciates everyone making the extra effort to properly dispose of household items. It will make a difference.
