Published on May 14, 2021

Peace Officers Memorial Day, which falls during National Police Week, honors law enforcement officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Huntsville will observe the day in October.

The Fallen Officers Memorial is located at 815 Wheeler Ave. in Huntsville.

On Peace Officers Memorial Day, Mayor Battle asks Huntsville citizens to take a moment to recognize the 12 fallen Huntsville Police officers in the department’s history, including the recently fallen Billy Clardy III, Keith Earle, Eric Freeman, Daniel Golden and their families.

“For Peace Officers Memorial Day, I encourage everyone to reflect on those who have made the ultimate sacrifice as well as our law enforcement who continue to serve and protect our community each day,” Mayor Battle said.

Those who would like to pay their respects on Peace Officers Memorial Day may visit the Fallen Officers Memorial at 815 Wheeler Ave. Erected in 2011, the memorial was made possible by funds from the Huntsville Police Citizens Foundation.

The nonprofit foundation not only funded the building of the Memorial, but also raises money to assist families of officers killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. Learn more about the Fallen Officers Memorial and how you can support it on our website.
