MidCity

The City Council approved an agreement with High Point Huntsville LLC for the company to lease a 6,500-square foot parcel at MidCity. The City has maintained 38 acres of the development for a park designated for unique recreational uses, including a climbing wall. High Point will maintain the climbing wall and assume liability.

South Huntsville

Approval was granted to enter into an agreement with Busbin Engineering for design services on the Aldridge Creek Greenway Extension, Phase II. The extension will be developed to extend from the former Grissom High School area (site of future Sandra Moon Complex) south toward Ditto Landing.

Downtown

Approval was granted to enter into an agreement with 4Site, Inc., for engineering design services in for streetscape services in the CityCentre area at Williams and Monroe Streets. The contract amount is for $32, 515.

Zoning

A public hearing was held regarding 12.93 acres on the east side of Whitesburg Drive to enable the property to be used for an assisted living facility and potentially a church. The development will not have access from Drake Ave. via Devon Circle, Council was told, with the likely access coming at Bellewood, where there is an existing traffic signal. There was no discussion on the matter from the public; Council praised the Planning Department for having been proactive in elaborating on the project with stakeholders and others in the neighborhood.

Board appointments

Lee Jones was reappointed to the Huntsville Public Library Board, for a term to expire February 10, 2022.

Annexation

An annexation plan was introduced in which the City of Huntsville would annex 659.10 acres of land east of U.S. Highway 231 South and on the north and south sides of River Loop Road in Morgan County. The City was approached by the landowner with the request for annexation. Having been introduced, further details on the land use and plans will be presented at the Feb. 22 City Council meeting.
