Volleyball courts The City Council approved a contract with Chorba Construction to begin work on a new sand volleyball complex at John Hunt Park. The facility will include 12 courts, easing the load at the existing six courts at Brahan Spring Park, and a building that will include concessions, changing facilities and restrooms. There will also be a 150-by-30 foot pavilion. The building will also serve competitors at the John Hunt Park cross-country course. [ more ]

Economic Development Council voted to approve an economic development agreement with the BOCAR Group that will include up to $400,000 in performance and investment-based incentives. BOCAR, a top Tier 1 automotive supplier, will build a $115 million advanced manufacturing plant in Huntsville/Limestone County. The facility will employ between 300 and 400 workers. Planning & Development Council voted to rezone 171.41 acres of land lying east and south of Liberty Hill Road and east of Opportunity Boulevard to Planned Industrial District for the North Huntsville Industrial Park. Approved a decrease in the price of land for sale in North Huntsville Industrial Park from $50,000 per acre to $35,000 per acre, maintaining a two acre track minimum. Zoning Council voted to introduce an ordinance to update the hours of operation for the Arts and Entertainment Districts to Thursday through Sunday, 12 noon to 11 p.m. The new times will be voted on at the next regularly scheduled Council meeting on Nov. 2. FY 2018 Budget The Huntsville City Council approved municipal budgets for the 2018 fiscal year at their regularly scheduled meeting Thursday night. Council voted 5-0 to adopt a $400.6 million budget, which includes $197.6 million in general fund operations and $157.6 million in capital projects. The City of Huntsville is working on plans for a new urban trail (greenway) in the downtown area and is looking for public input. The Pedestrian Access and Redevelopment Corridor (PARC) will be a 1.5-mile pedestrian/bike trail, adjacent to the Pinhook Creek and Spring Branch, from north of Holmes Avenue to south of Memorial Parkway.
