Funding to begin Phase 2 of Huntsville’s residential street repaving plan for this fiscal year has been approved by City Council. Grayson Carter & Son Contracting Inc. won the $6.2 million contract to improve 54 neighborhood streets within the next 10 months. Mayor Tommy Battle’s 2023-2024 budget includes about $18 million for street improvements. Phase 1 of the repaving plan resurfaced 68 residential streets. Offices were set to reopen at 11 a.m. today, but after reassessing road conditions, the decision was made to close to ensure employees’ safety. All offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22.
