Icy conditions force Thursday closure for City of Huntsville, City of Madison and Madison County

Slightly warmer temperatures will cause a partial thaw on Thursday, but another blast of arctic air will bring a potential refreeze of precipitation on roadways. To that end, Madison County Commission Chair Mac McCutcheon, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and Madison Mayor Paul Finley will close government operations through Thursday, Jan. 18. Icy, hazardous road conditions and frigid cold temperatures will persist through Wednesday, prompting the City of Huntsville, City of Madison and Madison County government operations to remain closed on Jan. 17. City of Huntsville municipal offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 15, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This includes Animal Services, Parks & Recreation, Public Transit and Municipal Court. Residential curbside collection will be delayed by one day the week of Jan. 15-19. Residents should leave carts at the curb until they are collected. Essential police and fire personnel will remain on duty throughout the holiday.
