More than 1,100 Walkers Log Miles in Healthy Huntsville 100-Mile Walking Challenge

The goal was 100 miles in 100 days! More than 1,100 walkers participated in the Healthy Huntsville Mayor’s 100-Mile Walking Challenge and 38 percent met or exceeded the goal.
The challenge kicked off in late August and ended November 30. City departments hosted walks throughout the 100 days along with a number of companies who promoted walks for their employees.
More than 20 teams entered the 2015 competition and the top five performers this year, in both numbers of participants and in miles logged, are:

#2 Colsa
#3 Army Materiel Command
#4 Huntsville Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
#5 Burritt on the Mountain
Following the top five teams are #6 WHNT, #7 Mirabeau, #8 Huntsville City Schools, #9 City of Huntsville, and tied for #10 Clearview Cancer Center and the Huntsville Housing Authority.
Additional numbers include:
417 walkers met or exceeded 100-mile goal
28 walkers logged at least 90 miles, just missing their goal!
3 walkers/runners logged more than 1,000 miles:

1,087 miles by Mark Allen at Colsa
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama donated 10 Fitbits as door prizes. Drawing from a list of names of those who completed the challenge, the winners of the Fitbits are:

All walkers who logged 100 miles are more are eligible for a free Healthy Huntsville t-shirt. Winners were notified by email and have until Dec. 9 to register for their shirt.
“We are pleased with the interest and turnout for the Mayor’s walking challenge and we look forward to a robust program in 2016,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “What matters most is that we take care of our health and include exercise in our daily lives.”
The Healthy Huntsville initiative focuses on fitness and nutrition. It is sponsored by the City of Huntsville, HudsonAlpha, Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville City Schools, and the Madison County Health Department.
