Redistricting 2021: See if your City Council, school board district has changed

Published on December 22, 2021

About 15,000 eligible Huntsville voters have new City Council and school board districts following the adoption of a redistricting ordinance presented by the City of Huntsville.

At its Dec. 16 meeting, the City Council unanimously adopted the Administration plan submitted by the City’s redistricting team. The plan was the culmination of input offered by City leaders and residents who attended 12 public meetings held in all five Council districts and at City Hall. The public also worked with the redistricting team through in-person meetings, phone discussions and email.

There were line shifts in all five Council districts, but all Council members remain in their respective districts. The district lines also apply to Board of Education representatives, but they do not change where a child attends school.

Residents affected by the change can quickly find their new districts with the simple click of a button. By visiting maps.huntsvilleal.gov/address , citizens can enter their home address to see who their Council and school board representatives are. The tool also offers information about local schools, sanitation schedules and zoning.

The public can also find district information at maps.huntsvilleal.gov/citycouncildistricts . Districts are represented by five different colors on the interactive map. Residents can enter their address in the “Find address/intersection” box at the top of the page and the address will display in the correct Council district.

The redistricting ordinance becomes official this week upon publication in local newspapers. The ordinance can also be viewed on the City’s website , at City Hall (308 Fountain Circle, Huntsville), the Madison County Courthouse (100 North Side Square, Huntsville) and Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (915 Monroe St., Huntsville).
