Ground has been broken on a new skating rink at Stoner Park in north Huntsville, a project that promises to transform recreational opportunities in the community.
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle described the project as another milestone in the City’s commitment to providing more places to play for all Huntsville residents.
Over the past decade, we’ve worked hard to expand recreational opportunities across our city and the Stoner Park Skating Rink is a testament to that dedication. This new and exciting venue will be cherished by families and skating enthusiasts for years to come.” – Mayor Tommy Battle
Butler Construction was awarded the contract on the $2.3 million project, which was designed by Nola | Van Peursem Architects. The 85-foot-by-185-foot rink will be housed within a 19,000-square-foot open air pavilion located on the site of the old tennis courts. The facility will be equipped with modern amenities, including new restrooms and picnic areas.
Its strategic location within the 68-acre Stoner Park ensures easy access to existing attractions such as playgrounds, multi-purpose fields and various sports facilities, ensuring a holistic recreational experience for all visitors.
Council Member Devyn Keith expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its community-driven origins.
“This project is the result of collaboration between passionate local residents and City officials,” Keith said. “It reflects our commitment to enhancing recreational infrastructure that meets the diverse desires of our residents.”
