U.S. 72 West between Providence Main and County Line Road

SUMMARY
This is an Alabama Department of Transportation-led project as part of the Restore Our Roads initiative. The 5.5-mile project will expand the current four-lane University Drive (U.S. 72) to a six-lane divided highway, spanning from County Line Road to Providence Main. Roadwork will add one lane in each direction with access management and signal modifications. The City of Madison will be responsible for the 1.5-mile section from Hughes Road to Balch Road. The completion date is undetermined at this time; however, the project will be constructed in phases, with eastern side being the first phase. Environmental document will be for the entire corridor.
STATUS
The City and ALDOT are working to secure additional funding as the design proceeds. The project will be constructed in phases, with the first phased being near Providence Main. Right of way acquisition is expected to begin in 2023 with construction anticipated in phases from 2024-2029.
