WHAT CAN BE ADOPTED?

Anyone can participate! Volunteer groups adopting areas can be very small or very large. Some examples include families, businesses, neighborhood associations, clubs, civic organizations, faith-based groups, service organizations, or even individuals. For safety, we typically encourage at least two people, when possible.
Yes. Download and complete the group and individual hold harmless forms, which must also be notarized. Then, complete the online interest form. Hold harmless forms must be uploaded to the online interest form before it can be submitted. For questions, call 256-532-5326.
Our team will contact you to discuss the site(s) you are considering and help you get started with supplies for your first cleanup.
No, insurance is not required for litter-only adoptions.
Volunteers are encouraged to choose a location that is important to them. If you are wondering about a specific site’s availability, please contact us and we can help you explore it or other options.
Private properties are supposed to be maintained and free of litter by the property owner. If there is a concern with private property litter control, please report it to the Community Development 256-427-5400. You can also report litter concerns using Huntsville Connect . A Community Development employee can address concerns with the owner. Green Team supports litter awareness on all types of property, but the Adopt-A-Mile, Spot or Stream program is reserved for public spaces.
Adoption agreements are for one year. At the end of each year, adopters have the option to renew their site agreements.
Of course! We are happy to help you with one-time or occasional cleanups without any agreement. We recommend anyone considering a site adoption begin with a single cleanup to experience it before committing to the site adoption.
Litter cleanups are encouraged to happen at least six times each year (every other month). We strongly recommend additional cleanups, either monthly or as-needed, to keep your site looking its best.
Green Team is happy to provide your group with safety vests, bags, gloves, and grabbers to get your group started.
No, the program is free.
Signs are provided, however, In some areas, signs are not an option due to infrastructure or safety reasons. Wait times may vary for new signs.
Individuals can take collected trash to a designated location for pickup and notify Green Team at Green.Team@HuntsvilleAL.gov or 256-532-5326.
