Proclamations & Recognitions
The Mayor’s Office is pleased to recognize the people, programs and events that make Huntsville unique by issuing proclamations and other recognitions.
REQUEST PROCESS
Proclamationsare issued for matters of local, regional or national concern and are generally issued to organizations or events residing in, or occurring within, the Huntsville city limits. The primary reasons for issuance include:
- Recognition of an organization’s event or special action
- Recognition of extraordinary achievement
Proclamations will not be issued for any matter with potential political controversy or which may suggest an official City position on a matter under consideration or to be voted upon by the City Council. Additionally, the Mayor will not recognize any group whose policies or aims advocate violence, hatred or any other position contrary to the well-being of the citizens of the City of Huntsville, Alabama, or the quality of life in Huntsville. No proclamation shall be used as a part of an advertisement or commercial promotion without the express permission of the Mayor’s Office.
All proclamation requests must be submitted with a draft of 5-8 “Whereas” statements. This draft will assist the staff and allows the selected wording to be directed towards the event. Please view a Proclamation Sample .
- All requests will be evaluated through an internal review and approval process.
- The Mayor’s Office reserves the right to determine the type of document to be issued.
- The Mayor’s Office reserves the right to deny any request.
- Proclamations must be picked up from the Mayor’s Office after you have been notified it is ready. No mailing is provided.
For letters of congratulations and recognition certificates,please submit the reason for your request along with detailed information about the nature of the accomplishment, contact information, and any verification information.
All requests must be submitted to the Mayor’s Office at least four weeks prior to the event/deadline, but individuals/organizations are encouraged to submit their requests as early as possible.
