Huntsville Historic Preservation Commission (HHPC) to step into the vacant position left after Drenda King’s retirement.

In January 2008, Skip accepted the position of Building Inspector with the City of Huntsville. As a Building Inspector, he was primarily responsible for Downtown Huntsville and the historic districts of Five Points, Old Town and Twickenham. During his 13 1/2 years as a Building inspector, he acquired various certifications from the International Code Council Inspectors, National Association of Home Builders Green Certification, and International Fire Stop Council Inspectors Certification, and maintained a State of Alabama homebuilders license.

In June 2021, he retired from the City of Huntsville. He then worked as a consultant for John Blue Realty, coordinating the construction of new facilities and maintaining existing facilities.

Skip has a passion for preservation, and over the past 35 years, he has been responsible for the restoration of historical monuments at Maple Hill Cemetery, Glenwood Cemetery, Merrimack Cemetery and several other private cemeteries. He even came out of retirement to help with restoration work in Maple Hill following the devastating damage caused by the May 8 storm.
