Ongoing investments
- McThornmor Acres , a subdivision built in the 1950s, is currently under consideration for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
- Enhancements are ongoing at Merrimack Hall Performing Arts Center and Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment .
- The Range and The Foundry , two new properties, will bring commercial and residential development along Governors Drive.
- Campus No. 805 and Stovehouse
- Road resurfacing and sidewalk repairs remain top priorities.
- Shops at Merchants Walk , anchored by Whole Foods, continues to see new investment.
- Merchants Square offers fine retail options and new-to-market restaurants.
- A new skate park is underway at John Hunt Park.
- John Hunt Park’s cross-country course is receiving national attention.
- Former Joe Davis Stadium renovation is in progress.
2021 residential data
- In District 4, 402 housing units were issued building permits in 2021, a 29.3% increase from 2020.
- The housing stock in D4 has increased by 0.1% since the 2020 Census.
- New residential construction in District 4 in 2021 was concentrated in two main areas: Lowe Mill and Merrimack.
- 266 permits for residential additions and alterations were permitted in D4, an increase of 33% from 2020.
- The neighborhoods with the most additions and alterations in D4 were the Piedmont and Fleming Meadows areas.
- There are three apartment complexes, with a total of 836 units, under construction or proposed in D4.
Real estate numbers
- 399 single-family homes were sold in D4 last year, an increase of 7.3% from 2020.
- The average sales price for a single-family home increased by 7.9% between 2020-2021, to $289,590.
Commercial development
- 191 non-residential permits were issued in D4 last year, an 18.6% increase over 2020.
