New Life: Huntsville District 4 major investments

As Huntsville’s population grows, the City’s fourth district continues to experience new life in the form of residences, real estate, commercial development and more.

Ongoing investments

2021 residential data

  • In District 4, 402 housing units were issued building permits in 2021, a 29.3% increase from 2020.
  • The housing stock in D4 has increased by 0.1% since the 2020 Census.
  • New residential construction in District 4 in 2021 was concentrated in two main areas: Lowe Mill and Merrimack.
  • 266 permits for residential additions and alterations were permitted in D4, an increase of 33% from 2020.
    • The neighborhoods with the most additions and alterations in D4 were the Piedmont and Fleming Meadows areas.
  • There are three apartment complexes, with a total of 836 units, under construction or proposed in D4.

Real estate numbers

  • 399 single-family homes were sold in D4 last year, an increase of 7.3% from 2020.
  • The average sales price for a single-family home increased by 7.9% between 2020-2021, to $289,590.

Commercial development

  • 191 non-residential permits were issued in D4 last year, an 18.6% increase over 2020.
