Fire & Rescue Department

Under the general guidance of Fire Chief Howard McFarlen, the department is staffed on a 24/7/365 basis and at your service every second of every day in every neighborhood. The primary goal of Huntsville Fire & Rescue is to serve the public by protecting life, property and the environment. The department is staffed with 395, well-trained personnel and teams with diverse and highly specialized skill sets to meet the wide ranging demands for the City of Huntsville, Alabama. Because our firefighters are often the first responders to citizens in need, Huntsville firefighters provide many other valuable services to the community in addition to fire suppression, including emergency medical treatment, technical rescue services and response to hazardous material releases.

On a daily basis the department staffs and coordinates 20 engine companies, five ladder trucks, four rescue trucks, along with a Special Operations Division which includes, Hazardous Materials Units, Technical Rescue Units, and several specialized support units. Huntsville Fire & Rescue also has investigations, emergency response dispatch, logistics, and training divisions, all of which are diverse, innovative and efficient.

The City of Huntsville Fire Department Maintains a Class 1 ISO Rating as graded by the Insurance Services Office.
