The Huntsville Historic Preservation Commission (HHPC) will host a public meeting and brainstorming session about the health and future of the City’s four historic districts on Monday, April 29, at 5:30 p.m., in the 1st floor conference room, 320 Fountain Circle, 35801.

The HHPC will offer a brief history of the locally designated districts, their purpose and impact on the community, followed by small group sessions to identify opportunities and challenges within the districts.

“We’re eager to meet with citizens and residents of Huntsville’s treasured historic districts as the first step in a lengthy public discussion around their sustainability and success,” said Katie Stamps, City of Huntsville Preservationist.  “We look forward to having many conversations in the coming months with community stakeholders.”

Attendees on Monday night will have the opportunity to participate in discussions to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats around the Districts.

“Huntsville leaders had the foresight many years ago to recognize the significance of these properties and took monumental steps to protect them,” said Dennis Madsen, Long Range Planner for the City of Huntsville. “They provide us with authentic and distinctive places to live. How we sustain them will define us in the future.”?
