Savoy Drive Shooting Update

Published on November 27, 2017

The Huntsville Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting in the 100 block of Savoy Drive that happened Sunday night.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 100 block of Savoy Drive just after 7:00 p.m.  Officers were notified by neighbors after a domestic dispute between a mother and son spilled out into the yard.  Officers responded to the home where they encountered William Freddy Carter Jr., 31 of Huntsville, inside the residence.  Carter shot the first officer as he entered the room. The wounded officer then returned fire shooting Carter.  Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.  The wounded officer was transported to Huntsville Hospital where he was treated for his gunshot wound and released.

The wounded officer is a six (6) year veteran and is at home recovering with his family.  We will not be releasing the officer’s name at this time to allow him to recover in peace. The case is still under investigation and all of the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
