As the 2022-2023 school year starts Tuesday, Aug. 2, the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is issuing a reminder about its zero-tolerance policy for speeding in a school zone. Patrol units and the Traffic Services Unit will patrol school zones throughout the year to ensure drivers are obeying the posted speed limit. Monroe Street between Clinton Ave. and Williams Ave. will be closed to north and southbound traffic from 5 – 8 p.m. to accommodate heavy pedestrian traffic for an event at the Propst Arena. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has charged Laccuina Braithwaite, 25, with capital murder following the death of her two-year-old daughter. Officers were called to an apartment in the 12000 block of Sugar Mill Circle for a welfare check shortly after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27.
