Downtown weekend road closures

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is assisting with traffic control and road closures for the 2022 Oktobeezrfest Festival. Road closures will begin at noon on Saturday, August 13, and conclude at 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 14. North Side Square will be closed from Jefferson Street to the intersection of Randolph Ave. and Greene Street. East Side Square will be closed at Eustis Avenue. Mayor Tommy Battle joined the Huntsville Beautification Board and City Council President John Meredith at a Beautification Awards ceremony Friday, Aug. 5, at Oakwood University’s Community Health Action Center. In the first Beautification Awards ceremony since 2019, area businesses and landscapers were recognized for outstanding efforts to keep properties clean, visually pleasing and well-maintained. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has charged 32-year-old Paul Rambert with murder following a shooting incident that happened shortly before midnight on Friday, Aug. 5. Officers responded to the 1900 block of Mangum Drive and found Michael Williams, 32, with life-threatening injuries. Williams was transported to the hospital where he died. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has charged 32-year-old Curtis Kwame Pickett with Capital Murder following a shooting incident in the 1300 block of Lancewood Dr. on Friday, July 29 shortly after midnight. HPD investigators believe a domestic dispute led to the shooting that killed 35-year-old Tiffani Cole. Pickett was booked into the Madison County Jail and is being held with no ?bond.

The City of Huntsville is mourning the loss of Huntsville Fire & Rescue (HFR) cadet Bryant McGowan, 31, who died Thursday, July 28, at Huntsville Hospital.
