Mayor’s Spring Tree Planting Day seeks community volunteers

Going green in John Hunt Park, March 25 It’s time to turn spring planning into planting! This Saturday, March 25, Mayor Tommy Battle and Huntsville’s Green Team will lead a tree planting day in John Hunt Park. At around 6:20 a.m. on Friday, March 17, the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) responded to a shooting call at a business located at 2990 Mastin Lake Road. HPD Major Crimes Unit Investigators learned Menterra Gurley, 25, attempted to steal a man’s vehicle after he entered the business. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has charged Deiondre Gilmore, 25, with capital murder following a drug-related robbery that happened on Sunday, March 12. HPD officers responded to a shooting into a vehicle call around 9 p.m. Sunday near Wharton Road and Kenwood Drive. During the investigation, Major Crimes Unit Investigators learned the shooting occurred in the area of Colfax and Deerfield Roads when Gilmore shot into a vehicle during a robbery. [ more ]

The City of Huntsville is allocating $364,000 to help area nonprofits provide services to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The Community Development Department will soon distribute FY 2022 Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).
