Ready, set, go! Huntsville Parks & Recreation welcomes return of Girls on the Run
January 12, 2024Calling all girls in grades 3-5! Lace up your running shoes for an empowering journey as Girls on the Run returns to Huntsville Parks & Recreation. This 10-week program is designed to foster confidence and enhance decision-making skills among participants. The cost is $20 per person, and the program is limited to a group of 25 girls. January 11, 2024The City of Huntsville is moving forward with plans for a new greenway in the western corridor that will also become a part of the Singing River Trail. The Miller Branch Greenway will stretch from the Huntsville International Airport, 1.8 miles southwest from Wall Triana Highway to Swancott Road, following Beadle Lane for part of the path. A contract with Grayson Carter & Son Contracting Inc. will make streetscape improvements along Pratt Avenue from Russell Street NE to Maysville Road NE. The total cost of the project is $789,490.52. January 11, 2024Some big back-of-house changes at the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall may lead to some big shows on the stage. The concert hall will be undergoing the most extensive changes in its history after the City approved a $15.3 million contract with Turner Construction Company. January 11, 2024Thanks to a collaboration with Huntsville’s Green Team, the City approved a land lease agreement with a North Alabama nonprofit organization to accommodate the relocation of its greenhouse. The agreement with the Master Gardeners of North Alabama provides land for its greenhouse and a small storage facility next to the CASA Garden and Kiwanis soccer field off Bob Wallace Avenue. This includes Animal Services, Parks & Recreation, Public Transit and Municipal Court. Residential curbside collection will be delayed by one day the week of Jan. 15-19. Residents should leave carts at the curb until they are collected. Essential police and fire personnel will remain on duty throughout the holiday.
