More activity at Mazda-Toyota and Redstone Gateway, and a new community health clinic at Oakwood University were among the non-residential permits issued last month. The number of residential units permitted decreased slightly year-over-year. Residential Permits (new construction) in Huntsville city limits: In June, 128 housing units were permitted, 126 single- and 2 multi-family. The top tract for building permits last month was 106.12 (72 West) where 18 units were permitted, all single-family. [ more ]

Overnight at approximately 11:40 pm Officers were flagged down about an assault on the 2000 block of Levert St. Once they were at the residence they found an assault victim with non-life threatening injuries inside the home. They also found a deceased individual. Our Major Crimes Investigators are working the assault and death investigation. The investigation continues.

City of Huntsville municipal offices will be closed for the upcoming Independence Day Holiday on Friday, July 3. Residential garbage collection will not be affected. Police and Fire will continue to be on duty throughout the holiday weekend. Public Transit will provide regular Shuttle Bus and Handi-Ride service on Friday, July 3, but will be closed on Saturday, July 4. Overnight, more disturbing graffiti was discovered at the overpass of Governors Dr and Memorial Parkway. There was similar graffiti left on the overpass at Airport Rd and Memorial Parkway discovered in the early morning hours of June 13th. Investigators have had at least one person of interest that was provided through an anonymous tip on the Airport Rd case.
