The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) urges the community to put safety first during New Year’s celebrations. Patrol officers and the D.U.I. Task Force will have an increased presence throughout the holiday weekend, on the lookout for impaired drivers, speeders and those not wearing a seat belt.

Those who plan to consume alcohol should have a designated driver or use a ride-share app or taxi to travel. If you suspect a motorist of driving under the influence, please call 911. Callers should be prepared to give the dispatcher vehicle and tag information, including location and direction of travel.

HPD would also like to remind residents that firing guns in a celebratory manner is illegal and can be deadly. It is also against the law to use, sell or possess fireworks within the city limits of Huntsville as they can cause injury or damage property. To report illegal fireworks, call HPD’s non-emergency number, 256-722-7100.
