Mayor Battle appoints new Director of Inspection

Allen Muzny, who brings more than 30 years of inspection experience, has been appointed the City’s new Director of Inspection by Mayor Tommy Battle.

Muzny’s appointment was unanimously approved by the City Council at its March 13 meeting.

Muzny has worked in the Inspection Department since 2017, most recently as Deputy Director of Inspection Services. Before working with the City, Muzny spent 23 years working as a code official and Senior Plans Examiner for Madison County.

“With his experience and insight, Allen was a natural choice as the City’s next Director of Inspection,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “We are excited to see him step into this pivotal role of serving Huntsville residents.”

Muzny was one of the first two code officials hired when Madison County created its Code Enforcement Department in 1994, and he’s worked for the City in Inspection as a Plans Examiner and Senior Plans Examiner.  He’s served on multiple local and state boards and was selected as a State of Alabama Energy Code Ambassador during the development of the state energy code through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.

Muzny and his wife, Pam, are Madison County natives and their married children also reside in Madison County.

“It’s a privilege to accept the appointment as the City’s Director of Inspection s ,” Muzny said. “I’m eager to contribute to the success and growth of our beautiful city and honored by the confidence placed in me by Mayor Battle and the City Council. I look forward to serving the people of Huntsville.”
