Major Crimes Unit investigation

At around 6:20 a.m. on Friday, March 17, the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) responded to a shooting call at a business located at 2990 Mastin Lake Road. HPD Major Crimes Unit Investigators learned Menterra Gurley, 25, attempted to steal a man’s vehicle after he entered the business. The vehicle’s owner confronted Gurley and asked him to exit the vehicle several times. Gurley then attempted to flee in the vehicle.

The vehicle’s owner fired his weapon at Gurley, who was transported by HEMSI to Huntsville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After a review of the case with the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, it was determined no charges would be filed at this time. The case will be presented to a Madison County Grand Jury at a later date.
