Huntsville Police seek public comment on service, performance

Published on September 9, 2024

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) seeks community feedback as part of its reaccreditation process with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Residents can share their insights on HPD’s community involvement, public safety services and overall suitability for reaccreditation through CALEA’s public comment portal .

Comments, which may include both commendations and concerns, will be sent directly to CALEA for evaluation. The portal is specifically for providing feedback on HPD’s service quality.

HPD first received CALEA accreditation in 1996 and has continuously upheld this status. This voluntary accreditation, recognized as the gold standard in public safety, helps ensure that agencies remain accountable to both the community and their own standards.

“HPD strives to comply with CALEA’s stringent accreditation standards, a benchmark we’ve achieved for the last 27 years,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said. “In doing so, our department has developed cutting-edge training techniques and key practices that help us serve and protect our citizens at a higher level.”
