Earth Month is here, and Huntsville’s Green Team invites residents to join the celebration at two upcoming events.
The annual Spring Plant & Cleanup Supply Giveaway is Friday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at John Hunt Park in the parking lot of the Jaycee Building at 2200 Jaycee Way. Residents can drive through and pick up free tomato and cucumber plants as well as free garbage bags for litter collection.
On Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the City will observe Earth Day during a free celebration at Hays Nature Preserve , 7153 U.S. 431, Owens Cross Roads. Enjoy earth-friendly exhibitors with informative and interactive displays, live music from Alli and Christy, vegetable plant giveaway, face painting, concessions and more. Auburn Southeastern Raptors will not be able to attend this year but we look forward to their return in 2025.
Parking is limited at Hays Nature Preserve, but ample parking is available at nearby Mark Russell Recreational Center, 429 Taylor Road. Huntsville Transit will provide shuttle transportation between the recreation center and the nature preserve.
“Earth Month is always a special time of year for Green Team, which finds its passion in taking care of the environment and making Huntsville look beautiful,” Director of Landscape Management Brian Walker said. “We hope residents will join us at these events as we take a moment to appreciate the world around us.”
