Get to know your School Resource Officers
Published on September 8, 2023
The Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council (HPCAC) will host a public forum on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 5:30 p.m. for the community to learn more about the role of School Resource Officers (SRO).
In this session, “Get to Know Your School Resource Officers,” SROs will explain their daily responsibilities, which are different than many people think. These officers proudly serve in local schools as mentors, coaches and advocates for student health and welfare. They work to establish trusted relationships with students and to develop a culture of community and respect. SROs relish the opportunity to be with young people, recognizing their guiding presence can play a formative role in a child’s life.
The Sept. 12 public forum is part of a series of informational sessions hosted by the HPCAC. Each gathering includes roundtable discussions between the public, police officers and HPCAC members. This meeting will be held at the Jackson Way Baptist Church, 1001 Andrew Jackson Way NE, 35801. The entrance to the Community Room is located on the north side of the building.
