Nature Preserve Rules & Regulations
The following rules and regulations apply to the following City of Huntsville nature preserves:
FANNING NATURE PRESERVE
- No possession or consumption of alcohol.
- No possession of firearms.
- All domestic animals must be on a leash.
- No motorized vehicles on trail.
- No four-wheelers allowed.
- No hunting.
- No removal or damage of plant life or property.
- No fires.
- No dumping or littering.
GOLDSMITH-SCHIFFMAN WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
- No pets are allowed except for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) service animals, including leashed dogs.
- No fishing is allowed.
- No motorized vehicles are allowed past the parking lot area.
- Sick or injured animals may not be dropped off at Sanctuary. Please report sick or injured wildlife to Animal Services dispatch at 256-883-3788.
- Trapped animals may not be released at Sanctuary.
- Sanctuary is open from sunrise until sunset unless otherwise posted. Sanctuary is subject to closure due to flooding.
- No swimming, skiing or motorized boats or equipment is allowed in any lake or lagoon.
- Hunting, killing or trapping animals or birds is prohibited.
- All trash must be removed using the provided receptacles. Excessive garbage that cannot be properly disposed of in the provided receptacles must be removed from the Sanctuary by the patron. Those who host events resulting in large amounts of trash in the park may be subject to removal charges incurred by the City.
- Alcoholic beverages are prohibited under ordinance #84-821.
- Open fires/burning and fireworks are prohibited.
- Golfing is prohibited.
- Soliciting, peddling, hand billing, posting of signs, or other advertising is prohibited without written permission.
- Camping is prohibited.
- Damaging, changing or removing any Sanctuary property is strictly prohibited and may result in a fine or arrest.
- Loud, amplified music or noise is prohibited without written permission. Music may not exceed sound ordinance regulations.
- Any person or organization that damages the park before, during or after their event may be subject to repair charges.
- Climbing trees is not permitted.
HAYS NATURE PRESERVE
- All pets must be kept on a 6-foot or shorter leash. Pet owners are responsible for removing any pet waste.
- Fishing is permitted in Bar Lake without a permit and is subject to posted limits. Those who fish at Flint River must have a permit. All state and local licenses apply except for fishing at Bar Lake.
- Motorized vehicles are not permitted on sidewalks, trails or greenways.
