Huntsville Utilities Rate Increase Request

The City Council heard a presentation by Huntsville Utilities on the request for a 2.75% rate hike. Huntsville Utilities held a public forum on the proposed increase last week, and the Council will review the request during a work session on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The work session will be broadcast live on HSV TV.

Liquor License Appeal

After a lengthy discussion, Council voted 4-1 to approve the application previously approved for a liquor license for an establishment on Golf Road, located on the former site of the Plush Horse. Residents from the Sutton Place Condominiums expressed concerns about a club returning to the neighborhood and the potential for crime and noise. City staff and Huntsville police told Council a license allows the City greater oversight on the club’s operations and for police to make spot inspections. At present, the Club’s owner, Dewey Brazelton, has been leasing the building for private events.

Real Estate Purchase

Council authorized a $207,025.36 purchase for .56 acres from Madison Square Hotel, LLC. The land is needed for drainage improvements and utility extensions to serve the out-parcels necessary for redevelopment of Madison Square Mall site. Funds for the purchase will come from an account already budgeted for the Mid City project.

Police Cars

Council approved one-year lease with Woody Anderson Ford for one police vehicle $4,999.92.
