Officer-Involved Shooting Update
September 19, 2016The Huntsville Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened September 17 at 8212 Bailey Cove Road. Police have identified 45 year old Robert Young, of Huntsville, as the man who was shot and died on the scene. The officers involved are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation and Incident Review Board. The adult white male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and the officers involved are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. September 7, 2016Huntsville Police have released the name of the victim struck and killed by a vehicle in the parking lot of 4710 University Drive yesterday. The victim, 33 year old Jamie Varvell of Athens, died as a result of injuries sustained when she was struck by a U-Haul truck. The accident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed against the driver of the truck at this time.

September 6, 2016Agents with the Madison-Morgan County HIDTA Drug Task Force (STAC) have charged 44 year old Markee Bennett of Huntsville with drug trafficking. The arrest was the result of a search warrant served in the 2800 block of Governors Drive following a lengthy investigation involving the distribution of heroin in the area. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of 48.2 grams of black tar heroin and 20 grams of marijuana. [ more ]
