Huntsville redistricting plans formally introduced

The City of Huntsville made progress on its 2021 redistricting effort when four plans were formally introduced at the Huntsville City Council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Dec. 2. The plans were previously presented and discussed during five public hearings held in October and November at City Hall. Huntsville’s Erick Wade was recently honored for his volunteer work with the City’s Operation Green Team and the Adopt-A-Mile programs. Wade received the Alabama People Against a Littered State (PALS) Governor’s Award at a ceremony at the Renaissance Convention Center in Montgomery. Alabama PALS provides anti-litter programming to improve the environmental and economic impact on the state. Huntsville’s four designated historic districts are home to some of the state’s oldest dwellings, and the Huntsville Historic Preservation Commission’s (HHPC) mission is to ensure they are preserved for future generations. Huntsville Animal Services (HAS) is waiving adoption fees on most adult dogs this week to help them find loving, caring homes before the Thanksgiving holiday. Additionally, adult cats can be adopted for $10, though some are also free to a good home. Kittens and puppies are $50. A pilot program coming to Huntsville Transit will make it easier for smartphone users to ride while also providing a contactless payment method for operators. Through Nov. 20, adult pets can be adopted for as little as $10, though some exclusions apply. Adoptable puppies and kittens are also available for as little as $50.
